Chatty, chatty, chatbots

Chatbot

I’ve been converting the ChatBot project into Scratch 1.4 so that we can use it today.  The pupils will either have to make their own chatbot or use Gobo.

Some learners wanted to look at ChatBot but another popular project, they’re working on, is remixing the following:

Medieval_Town

Remixed from ‘Build your own Medieval Town 0.2’ by mfairy

which is ‘Build your own Medieval Town 0.2’ by mfairy from the Scratch website https://scratch.mit.edu/ . It’s a simple Minecraft-type game and is particularly popular with some of the girls. I need to look at it closer myself but I can see the appeal of altering a great project like this to suit yourself.

Fun and frustration with Frantic Felix

I’ve been working on the first week of the platform game Frantic Felix and have found it quite challenging. It’s possible the pupils will do better than me because they may have more familiarity with platform games.  The activity notes are well-explained so I just need to get down to doing more work on it myself!

When one of the pupils has had a try at it I’ll let you know how it goes.

Flappy Parrot makes a splash!

Another great session!  Some of the pupils were working on What’s That? from last week and others started this Scratch 1.4 version of Flappy Parrot.

Some pupils are ready to create their own game next week.  Last time, I did this, I gave them some starter ideas.

  • a basic pong game
  • an e-greetings card
  • a basic maze game

This time I want to add to that a platform game starter using the Frantic Felix activity because several pupils asked if it was possible.

New year, new coders!

Whats_that_board

We started the new year with the quiz game ‘What’s That?’.  This was one of the most successful Code Club sessions we have ever had.  These pupils, who are on their second five-week course, were really motivated and  tackled this challenging activity very single-mindedly.

As I was their only helper, I set up a list on the whiteboard for pupils to write what they were expert in.  Three or so pupils filled it in and others asked them for help which made it possible for me to only deal with the most difficult bugs and give each pupil more of my time.

They’ll need some extra time to complete it next week and I’m looking forward to seeing their results!
